Ten Sleep

At 3 A.M. on July 27, we gladly left the IL heat and draught looking forward to the cooler climate of WY. Again using Horsetrip.com to secure an overnight reservation, 13 hours later we pulled into the Hobby Horse motel in Mitchell, SD. It proved to be a great choice. Camping sites were level and right next to the covered horse pens. A nice sitting area gave us time to relax in the shade and rest up after a long day's journey. A nearby small fenced pasture allowed Little Man a place to graze for awhile.

We departed early the next morning and thoroughly enjoyed the beautiful drive along the Cloud Peak Skyway headed for Ten Sleep, WY where we joined friends who'd driven out earlier in the week. We stayed at Ten Broek Campground nestled right at the edge of the quaint little town. The campground was immaculate. Our site was roomy and shaded. A super clean showerhouse was only a few steps away. Just beyond were the partly-covered horse pens which were both roomy and clean. The camp proprietor, Darell, had made a nice small pavillion adjacent to the barn where we could gather around for a visit. It was only a short walk to the sleepy little town of Ten Sleep where the men found a cozy little bar offering pizza and thirst-quenchers!

We were up early the next morning where Daryl and his wife hauled all of us up to a logging trail where we unloaded and began a gorgeous day of riding. We rode along a high mountain ridge which lead us to a breath-taking overlook. Not brave enough to ride to the edge, I kept my distance while enjoying the view. Our small group then snaked our way down the steep hillside where we tied up the horses and snacked alongside a beautiful stream.

The next day, Randy and Danny drove to Worland to buy two new tires for the trailer. Luckily the problem was spotted before heading up through the Big Horns towards Burgess Junction. We enjoyed the short stay at Ten Broek Campground and look forward to WY '06 when we plan to camp longer with Daryl and Bonnie.

So, on to Burgess Junction where we met up with the rest of our group!
