BALLOT SCANDAL

Thousands of spoiled ballots reported after Republicans
allegedly tell Florida voters to 'punch five in a row to BINGO'

Also, some ballots listed only the Bush/Cheney ticket

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (JNN) -- Confused elderly voters were allegedly lured to polling places Tuesday by Republicans who represented the voting process as a BINGO game, Democrats say.

Thousands of ballots were thrown out because of multiple holes, election officials confirmed, although they refused to comment on the BINGO allegation.

Voter Ivy Glenn, 87, said she was one of the victims of the alleged scam.

"A nice young man named Jeb told me if I punched five spots in row, I'd win a coupon for a free cup of coffee at The Stop 'N Glop," Glenn said. "And sure enough, I BINGO'd. But they didn't give me any coupon. That's when I began to suspect something was wrong."

Some voters went so far as to actually yell "BINGO!" in the booths, said one election judge who chose to remain anonymous.

"We just thought they were excited to be participating in the democratic process," the election judge said.

Jesse Jackson was quick to call for a full inquiry.

"The dishonest lingo started with the word BINGO," Jackson said. "We must set this straight, I must mediate."

Jackson said the misled voters must be allowed to vote again, but only if they agree not to vote for Republicans.

"We must even the playing field," Jackson said. "The Republicans are already ahead."

Some ballots listed only the Bush/Cheney ticket, causing Democrats to cry foul after they turned in their ballots, having voted for the Republican candidates.

"I realized after I left the polling place that I'd made a huge mistake," an anonymous Democratic voter said. "I need a new ballot now. Why won't they let me vote again?"

Jesse Jackson said he was considering getting involved in this issue as well, but he first wanted to see if it would have sufficient media coverage.
